Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing to add Phil 301 ??Bioethics? (Winter, 2022).

Unfortunately, I missed the deadline to add this class due to an administrative oversight on my behalf. As an International student, I was under the impression that enrolment in this course was the same as enrolment in my other courses - being handled by my exchange coordinator. I now understand that this was incorrect since level 300 courses operate differently. However, throughout the time period of this misunderstanding regarding enrolment status, I have been attending the classes since the first week using a zoom link and I am up to date with all the content.

As an international student I was confused by this process of adding and dropping classes as it is not the same as the procedure at my home university. I hope that this mistake does not affect my desired studies.

I have been in constant communication with course leader, Professor Bachour, who provides me the Zoom link. He has further approved my decision to continue studying this course despite the enrolment issue. Please see below an email in support from Prof Bachour.

Hi Jennifer,

I??m sorry to hear about that administrative error.

Not to worry, especially since you've been attending the lectures from the time I sent you the Zoom link via e-mail. Consequently, you have both my permission and support to enroll in the course and continue with us.

Let me know if you require anything else

Kind regards,

Omar

I ask that you grant my appeal and prevent my unfamiliarity with the Queen??s add/drop system from hindering my academic career at Queen??s. I appreciate your time and consideration and hope I can continue on in my Bioethics studies.

Yours Sincerely,
Jennifer Aitken

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Furthermore, should the appeal be granted, I will have no issues with maintaining academic success in Phil 301. I have adjusted well to academic studies in Canada and obtained high grades in all of my subjects last semester. I will continue to apply the same academic rigour to my studies in Philosophy 301. I am extremely interested in my studies so far and I am excited to continue my assignments and learning in this field.
