Petition Letter
Petition Letter: January 28, 2022
Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Sara Stephenson, I am currently a second year Life Sciences student. I am appealing to add one 3.0 unit course from the following: RELS 163, IDIS 173, or STAM 200, for the winter 2022 term. I would like the opportunity to join a class past the add course deadline of January 21, 2022.
I was unable to join a course prior to January 21 due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to contracting COVID-19 during the exam period from the Kingston outbreak, I was required to defer my exams until January. I was enrolled in BCHM 218 in the Fall 2021 semester, and I received my final grade today (January 28, 2022). Presenting as a challenge in the fall, I was certain that I would need to retake it due to a failing grade. However, as I found out today, I did pass and therefore have no need to retake it. I am currently enrolled in 4 courses, but the PHYS 118 lab is only worth 1.5 units this term. Therefore, if I drop BCHM 218 I will be under 9.0 units, putting me as a part time student. The graduate studies that I have researched require a student to be a full time student throughout their undergraduate studies, as well, if I am required to apply for financial aid I will need to have full time student status.
Sincerly,
Sara Stephenson

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: January 28, 2022
Dear Associate Dean,
In the event that I am granted this appeal to join one 3.0 unit this Winter 2022 term, I have developed a plan for my academic success. I will be dropping BCHM 218, this will allow me to take 4 courses this term and lighten my workload. Therefore, I will have more time to allocate towards catching up in my new course. In both, RELS 163, and STAM 200, I have close friends who are willing to assist me in learning the concepts I am behind in. In IDIS 173, I have multiple friends who have previously taken it and I have reached out to. They would be available to assist me in any areas of the courses where I am behind. I am open to finding a tutor in any of the above classes, should I feel I need one. I have reached out to the professors of all three courses, and am waiting to hear back from them. I have the intention of catching up to the course quite quickly, and am eager to put in the extra hours and effort in order to do so.
Sincerly,
Sara Stephenson
