Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Appeal Board,

I would like to appeal to waive the 21 day deadline in hopes of replacing my current GLPH (GLPH 375) course for a 4th year politics seminar this Winter semester (2022). The reason being is, I was unaware that some of my electives taken in my previous years at Queen's did not count towards my degree in that they were above and beyond the stated degree requirements and outside of the department. I was only made aware of my missing credits after applying to graduate and after receiving a degree audit in which I received an email on January 28th, 2022 altering me that I had missed 9.0 units of electives and 6.0 units of mandatory POLS courses. Since I was not aware of the missing credits, I did not utilize the 21 days granted by SOLUS. After being made aware, this prompted me to take action to fulfill these credit requirements in hopes of maintaining my designation in Politics and in hopes of being able to graduate on schedule. Without these credit requirements, I will be unable to graduate on schedule which will push back work commitments and commitments to further education.

In order to accomplish this goal of being able to graduate on time successfully, I will replace my existing GLPH course with a POLS seminar after contacting the department for permission. I will then take the remaining 1 POLS course and the 3 electives during the summer semesters (2 per semester). In order to ensure success, I have blocked out the time in the summer already, understanding that the workload is likely to be much more given the condensed nature of the summer semester. Having taken a summer course before, I know that I have the tenacity and intrinsic motivation to succeed in individual styles of learning which is why I feel that 2 courses per semester will be feasible. In the case that these electives are not available in the summer through Queen's, I will utilize the online courses through Athabasca University to fulfill those remaining credits.
