Petition Letter: Dear Appeal Committee,
This year I was focused and on track to raise my GPA up to the necessary amount when early into the fall semester I was kicked out of my home in Kingston, was admitted to the KGH on a suicide attempt, and lost a vast majority of my friend/support network all within a few days. If needed, I can provide proof and receipts for these events.
I was forced to go back to my parents home which is a 6 hour drive from Kingston while still suffering from the trauma of what had happened here. After being stuck there for multiple weeks, somebody I knew in Kingston offered me a room in their house. I moved back into Kingston still shook up and struggling without any support. During all of this somebody in the Kingston community (not a student) threatened both me and my boyfriend with violence if they saw us in public so I was scared to leave my house even for groceries.
The rest of the semester rotated around me scrambling to catch up in my courses with what I had missed. I was emailing my professors, speaking to my counselor, and working exceedingly hard to finish assignments I had missed alongside keeping up with the new material. After all of this I managed to get a B in history and a C in my Econ course which I credit to the high mark I got in the courses exam. Sadly even with all of my effort I ended both my Geology and Stats course with a failing grade as I simply wasn??t able to catch up with everything that I had missed.
Getting a good GPA this year means I won??t have to take an academic leave so I am willing to do everything in my power to achieve this. I was just thrown into a set of circumstances I never could have accounted for. I am planning on adding more courses to my schedule this semester in order to make up for the missed grades and I am hoping that I won??t have what happened to me determine my future at this university.
