Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I hope you're well. My name is David Niddam-Dent, student number 20099508, and I am hoping to drop a course after the financial deadline without financial penalty.
I went on exchange to the University of Strathclyde in Fall 2021, taking a full course load while there. Given that I am in the fourth year of my plan, was ahead on courses (only required 24.0 units to graduate), and am in quite a restrictive plan, I had considerable uncertainty as to the weighting of my courses, and what transfer credits I would receive from my studies. I communicated considerably with the relevant undergraduate chairs, Dr. Hanniman and Dr. Cromb, before my exchange in recognition of this concern. However, it quickly became clear that such weightings could only be finalized by the IPO after my marks were finalized from Strathclyde. As such, I enrolled in 5 courses this winter in order to ensure that I would graduate regardless of the IPO's decision. My final Strathclyde marks were released the week of February 1st, and the IPO confirmed my weightings with my undergraduate chairs a few days later. While I technically received 15 transfer credits from Strathclyde, 12.0 can be applied to my degree. As a result, I only need to take 12.0 units this semester. One course I previously enrolled in, POLS432, is now irrelevant to my degree progression. Thus, I am appealing to drop a course I have confirmed I do not need to graduate without financial penalty, because while I am appealing this after the financial drop date, I was unable to control the delay in my mark release. Unfortunately, due to IPO procedures, there was no way for me to achieve enough certainty before the drop deadline to drop it, and thus believe these circumstances are entirely outside of my control.
