Petition Letter: I am applying to drop PSYC 271 after the dropout deadline. Initially performance in the course was good, however right before the examination period on December 3rd I was forced to isolate after a close contact of someone who contracted COVID-19. During this time it was mandatory to re-test 7-10 days after the first PCR test. I was informed that I tested positive for COVID-19 on December 12th 2021. During this time, there was a mandatory 10 day isolation if an individual was to test positive. Which meant that I had to isolate for a total of 20 days. My mental health was already bad from being isolated from housemates, friends, and family. My exam was pushed to the 12th of January 2022 due to contracting COVID-19. On December 28th 2021, sadly my grandma has passed away after contracting COVID-19. During the next week and a half, we had inform family in the Philippines, planning and attending the funeral and obituary, mass service and helping take care of family and my efforts, towards studying for my exam were prioritized towards spending and supporting time with family and myself. On January 5, 2022 the obituary was held, and January 6, 2022 the funeral mass, and funeral was held. I struggled heavily during this time and could not dedicate enough proper focus on my academics during this time. These two extenuating circumstances were out of my control and because of these events I was unable to put in the proper effort and focus into preparing for my PSYC 271 exam.
