Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Academic Appeal Committee,

I am requesting to withdraw from SOCY 276 as a result of my ongoing sleep disorder which has been especially debilitating in the last few weeks and is preventing me from regularly attending classes and submitting assignments on time. I have been in ongoing contact with my family doctor and other healthcare professionals to find better ways to manage my sleep issues, and I am confident that as we establish a better routine surrounding my medication, I will be able to get my sleep disorder back under control. Sociology is my minor so I think it best to focus my energies on my english courses for the time being and so I can make sure I stay on top of my GPA/credits needed to complete my undergrad. I apologize for the late request but I was hoping to see some improvement in my health that would allow me to continue the sociology course. I can provide a copy of my accommodations which detail my sleep disorder conditions or I can supply additional medical documentation, if this is necessary. I am disappointed in having to ask for this appeal as I really enjoy taking sociology but, at this time, I just do not feel I will be able to manage the grades in that course to achieve what I think will be a much better grade when I take the course in the future.
