Petition Letter: To whom it may concern.
Hello ?? I??m writing to provide context for my Academic appeal for this current year. I reached out to the Registrar on March 4th to discuss options but mis-understood that I should have proceeded with dropping my courses that day as well as entering into the appeal process. Apologies for that.
Last year I was diagnosed with severe depression (runs in the family apparently) and entered into treatment with my family doctor and a psychotherapist. I adjusted my extra-curricular activities to allow me to focus on school but my symptoms continued to progress. I ended up dropping courses last term and performing poorly on others but made it through with plans to cover missed content over the summer.
This term my symptoms have progressed to the point I can??t function I??m afraid. My family has brought me home to focus on my treatment and my doctor has advised that I need to drop school until I??m ready to resume (note attached). We??re currently working through different medications to find a treatment model that works for me.
It is still my intention to complete my current degree program ?? I still love the material. I??m requesting a leave of absence from my studies to focus on my mental health. I??m hoping to be able to stabilize my mental health in time for the fall semester but I have been advised to let my treatment move at its own pace.
I??m sorry if this has caused any difficulty with the faculty. Please let me know if there??s anything more I can provide.
