Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I would like to appeal to withdraw out of the PSYC100 fall and winter course that is past the dropped deadline so it will not impact my overall GPA. I have been experiencing challenging family problems involving a marital separation with my visually impaired brother and niece, as well as assisting my elderly parents at home. I have wrote about this concern previously last year as it has impacted my mental health and have records showing I have on going anxiety that I manage with counselling when I am overwhelmed significantly. I have been in contact with my professor Meghan Norris at different points of this course to evaluate how I could improve in the course while I found it challenging to keep up with weekly course content, as well as coordinate with my family to provide support and care when needed.
I was not able to change any deadlines with this course to improve my marks for past work as my professor mentions this is an interactive component that is central to the learning process with the course that is on going and dates cannot be extended. She has been supportive throughout this past year and encouraged me to further fill out a form where this course may be a Personal Interest Course so it would not impact my GPA, but I did not qualify as it is an options credit part of the Health Sciences program. My initial thought when completing this was that I have already fulfilled my option credits in first year and since this course was taken out of interest, I would qualify. Unfortunately, I received notice of me not qualifying for this only after the drop deadline, in which I would have just applied to drop the course should I had known. I have spoken about all this with Dr. Norris and she has agreed to support me in my appeal as she is aware of my circumstances this past year.
