Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Stephenson,

I am requesting an extension of an incomplete grade for the course COMM 251 I took Summer 2021.
I have been having a lot of issues with stress and anxiety and was having a very hard time with the course while trying to cope with my ongoing anxiety.

I've been dealing with an exacerbation of mental health symptoms including anxiety and low mood over the past year. During this time it was difficult for me to maintain concentration, to complete tasks, and to cope with my emotions. As such, I was unable to engage fully in the coursework at the time and was given an incomplete in the course. I've been working with an occupational therapist, and will continue to see them regularly, to increase emotion-focused coping skills and problem solving strategies with the goal of completing this course at the end of August. I'm aware that extension requests are only usually granted until the following semester, but given my ongoing symptoms and challenges with course completion, I am requesting an extension to the end of the summer semester (August 2022).
