Petition Letter

Petition Letter: During mid-December, I was preparing for my final exams that were to be written in person. I like everyone else in residence was informed of the need to pivot to online exams and return home. On December 18th I completed the online exam as required. During the written component, I became confused with the instructions and erroneously interpreted how the question was to be approached. As a result of my oversight, I only answered one-quarter of what was required. This section made up about 60% of the exam total. Because this course required a pass on the final exam, I was ultimately rendered unsuccessful in my attempt. This has resulted in a dramatic understatement of my GPA, a metric by which I am being assessed for acceptance into my preferred second-year major (biochemistry requires a 2.9 for automatic acceptance).
Facts;
- If I wasn't required to pass the exam, given the weighting of the exam and term work, I would still have passed this course.
- As acknowledged by professor Hanes I consistently made the same error throughout the entire written section of the exam.
- I acknowledge that this was entirely due to my own error.
- Had this exam been in person, I would have had the opportunity to obtain clarification from a proctor who is familiar with the program.

Ideally, I would appreciate having the pass-fail waived and having my course mark reflect my exam and term work at face value. If this is not an option, I am appealing to have this course mark waived from my transcript as it is not a true reflection of the dedication or success I had in the course.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Going forward from here I will take more care to read questions thoroughly. Personally, I prefer to have a hard copy of test material as I find that underlining or highlighting what is being asked helps me to better understand the question. I will work on attaining better comprehension of online materials. If the appeal is unsuccessful I will enroll in a summer school course to both improve my GPA and ensure that I reflect a full-time course load.
