Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Academic Appeals Board,

On February 16, I went home to Toronto with a severe sore throat (not covid). I went to my family's doctor's office and saw a family medicine intern who suggested I had a swollen glands from a virus and sent me home.

On Feb 22, I went back to the doctor with severe symptoms and was tested for Covid, Strep and Mono. I was diagnosed with Mono on Feb 23.

On Feb 27, I was in the emergency room for high fever and dehydration.

My severe symptoms prevented me from swallowing, eating, (I lost 10 lbs) high temperature, severe headache, an enlarged spleen, and would keep me in bed for four weeks and continue to limit physical activity to through to April.

On March 4, I dropped ECON280 because the prof had said there would be absolutely no online when in person learning started.

I did not drop COMM200. Even though the lectures were in person, I was overly optimistic that I could keep up with content online and with my group work. As it turns out, the group work was also in person and I did not recover in time to be included.

Thanks for reaching out. As we discussed, my recommendation is for you to drop the course. Given the amount of team-based work assigned in this course, it is not possible to re-assign this work. If you need me to contact anyone on your behalf, please let me know.

My Doctor's note is attached indicating that I was very symptomatic through the period Feb 23-March 23. Please allow me to drop COMM280 without penalty.
