Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing on behalf of my GNDS 120 online class with Jill Smith. This semester I moved home to be closer to my mother. My mother Fiona was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2014 for the second time. During the fall I went home nearly every weekend to see her and take care of her during her 4 rounds of chemotherapy. Luckily for me my father's work schedule was not too busy and he was there to help as well. On January 8th my father left on a business trip and has been travelling ever since. He has come home for up to 5 days at a time but the majority of the time I have been alone. While my mother successfully completed her chemotherapy in the first week of December, she underwent a 10 hour reconstructive surgery on January 9th. This intensive surgery required her to be in the hospital for 2 weeks, home nurse visits for 4 weeks, and home rest for three weeks. During this time I became my mother's caregiver and devoted my time to her. It was in this time that I fell very behind in my online course. I missed many quizzes and requested extensions on my assignments which can be confirmed by my instructor/TA. It has now come down to my final essay and I overwhelmed with how much information I need to ingest in order to write my essay. My essay is now 4 days late and I am feeling buried in the mountain of material I need to read to properly respond to the assignment. Thank you for consideration.
