Petition Letter: Dear Office of Associate Dean (Academic)?

Subject: Appealing to drop ECON 351, ECON 222, ECON 262 (Winter, 2022)

I wish you are all doing well. I am appealing to drop ECON 351, ECON 222, ECON 262 (Winter, 2022), that means to drop all the courses I am taking in this semester.

The direct reason I would make this appeal is that I had two jawbone fractures inside my face. The fractures make too much pain for me to continue my current study.

For detail, I had a falling down while taking a show on March 29. On March 31, I took a surgery in KGH. All the CT medical report and the diagnose report of the doctor say that I have suffered two fractures, one in lower part of my jaw (the green part of the picture), and the second fracture is on the ??base of the condylar?, joint part of jawbone and skull as shown by flowing picture (the red part of the picture).

These two fractures have been making sever pain to me, causes severe headache and toothache, so severe that I even cannot think and learn normally. What??s more, the doctor had to perform a surgery plunging in many metal materials into my mouth to make my jawbone fixed. The doctor also told me that Only Full Liquid Diet is allowed, and I should also have limited motion for at least 68 weeks. Now I not only feel severe headache and toothache, but also feel difficulty in speaking eating, and even drinking, as well as feel significant weakness in strength due to the full fluid diet. Right now, I can feel significant dizzy even after sitting up for only half an hour, therefore, for most of my time I have to stay on bed.

All of the situation makes me impossible to continue learning the three courses as usual. I have applied accommodation to QSAS (Queen??s Student Accessibility Services), and the QSAS had already agree to grant me Exam Deferral for reasons related to my disability for which I am registered with QSAS. The QSAS had asked me to send the ??QSAS Exam Deferral Request? form to instructors to complete the procedure.

Before I send the ??QSAS Exam Deferral Request? forms to instructors I think it over and over. Although my current marks of these three courses are quite excellent, I also enjoy these courses and feel I can learn a lot from them, however, I still have to decide to appeal to drop ECON 351, ECON 222, ECON 262 264 (Winter, 2022) for three reasons:

1, I am planning to apply for graduation before 30 April deadline, since I will need a Certificate of Graduation to begin my new career or go to a graduate school. Without a graduation certificate, I cannot start my new career or begin my graduate study.

2, Due to this unexpected extenuating injury of bone fracture on my face, it is quite definite that I cannot complete the course before 30 April. Right now, I have to completely stop learning the courses. And after these days, the symptoms are so painful and severe that I believe this situation will not get a significant relief in a short period. I am afraid at the worst scenario, even before mid of May, there is still possibility that the situation does not allow me to complete these three courses as usual, keep these three courses will be a great uncertainty for my future.

3, I had already earned ENOUGH units for undergraduate Bachelor of Computing (Honor) degree, and I have already met all the requirements for a Degree with Distinction even if without the remaining three courses. The original purpose that I kept these three courses is purely because I like them and want to learn more. Dropping them will not affect me to get a Degree with Distinction and on the other hand, leave the three courses at a statue of Incomplete or Failure will make me miss the Degree with Distinction, and if that unfortunately happens, it would be a great unfair to me.

Finally, a CT medical report and a doctor??s diagnosis report is affiliated at the end of this appeal.
