Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing this letter requesting an appeal for the course MUSC 293 due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control. In the fall I was diagnosed with two severe mental illnesses. I started medication for them around October and this is when I noticed my grades started to severely decline. I was seeking out counselors as well at the time to talk through these psychological issues. I ended up passing my courses in the fall but was determined to succeed in the winter term and raise my GPA. Thinking that because I was now medicated and seeking counseling I should have been fine, I suddenly got worse. I was trying as hard as I could to maintain passing grades in my courses including setting up weekly meetings with my professor for MUSC 293, but due to the worsening illness, these meetings weren't enough. It turns out that the medication I have been on to improve the original diagnosis (which did help the original diagnosis), gave me another disorder resulting in the behaviors that led to the result of this course and others. I have decided to only apply for an appeal for MUSC 293 and not the rest because I don't want to be severely behind in my university career path. Having this appeal would give me the chance to re-take this course and succeed as I wanted to the first time. I am currently discussing with my doctor a new medication that hopefully will not have the same side effects as this one did.
