Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to request consideration of appeal to prevent my Fall term IN-grades in Brain and Behaviour I (PSYC 271) from defaulting to a failing grade on April 30th due to a missed deferred exam. I took PSYC 271 in the Fall 2021 semester and could not write the in-person exam during the regular exam schedule, therefore it was deferred. The exam was rescheduled to January 16, 2022, however, I suffered a mild concussion on the 13th of January and therefore was unable to write my already deferred exam. During this time, I was unable to complete any course work and could not do anything that may have overstimulated my brain. After thoroughly discussing my symptoms with my primary physician, he agreed that I would be unable to participate in any of my Winter term courses for at least one week and that writing an exam in my condition was out of the question; therefore I applied and was approved for academic consideration between the 13-21 of January, missing the Fall deferred exam period. I promptly contacted the courses professor to inform them of my circumstances and was told that the exam would be rescheduled to the May 12-15 deferred exam period. I have since fully recovered from my concussion and have met with an occupational therapist at QSWS to discuss how to be successful after missing classes and dealing with a brain injury. I have enjoyed the class and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to take the exam in the winter term deferred exam period. Granted the opportunity to write the exam, I believe I will be successful.
