Petition Letter: Hi there,
My name is Laura Smith, I am requesting to drop a course from this semester (MUSC 399). As I'm sure you know, coming back to school this year has been very hard on the mental health of students. I was unfortunately someone who was hit incredibly hard by these circumstances. Going through waves of roommates with covid, not being able to attend classes, and transitioning on and off zoom caused my mental health and motivation for anything and everything to drop drastically. With the first half of the semester being online, I didn't realize the full extent of the workload in this course combined with in-person lectures with all classes. I took it as an extra course this year assuming I could handle the 6th class but turns out I could not. By the time all my classes were in full swing in person and I realized how behind I was getting in most of my courses (especially MUSC 399), I had missed the drop date. I tried to push through and catch up but I just continued to fall further behind. I got to a point where I was putting so much pressure on myself with all my classes that I just couldn't focus on anything. Now that we're at the end of the year, I'm realizing just how badly I handled the course load and that I just need to get this course off of my plate so that I can catch up in my other classes.
Thank you so much for your consideration,
Laura Smith
