Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Good evening, my name is Jessie Nininger and I??m requesting an appeal to drop PSYC 100. I??m currently in general arts and Psychology has been tricky to keep up with. It has multiple due dates each week, and lots of content. This year I have been struggling with anorexia. As an art major, Psychology, compared to my other classes, is the most difficult and content-heavy. I am overall not proud of the academic work I??ve done. Because of my eating disorder, I??ve been mentally and physically weak which has caused me to take a lot of time off school and put my health first. Despite living in residence I have made many trips home due to feeling sick, tired, or being in a poor mental state and needing assistance from my family. This has been an ongoing issue for me (missing school/academics due to my eating disorder) this year and I have reached out multiple times to my psychology TA and coordinator. They have both been very kind and understanding, however, I was not able to give the class enough time and attention to save my mark. I??ve been in overdrive trying to study for my psychology exam and recently have fainted on campus. I fainted in Starbucks while trying to leave, hit my head on the door, and blacked out for a few seconds. There were students and workers around me who were all very helpful and my friend who was with me took me to the hospital. The doctor said I should be okay but that I should be resting and avoiding screens. This happened a week ago and thus I haven't been able to study as much as I??d like to. My eating disorder has taken away so much time and energy that could have gone into PSYC 100. Because of the excessive content I have fallen behind so many times and believe my mark is not a reflection of what I??m capable of. I??m asking for an appeal because this mark is significantly bringing down my GPA. I am looking into recovery for the summer and hope that next year I??m able to give my full energy to school and academics. By dropping this class I??ll be able to take another class when I??m in a better mental state and improve my GPA. Thank you for your time,
