Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
My name is Adelle D??Urzo and I am a third year Environmental Science student, also currently on track to receive the Certificate in Law. I am appealing to re-enrol in ENSC 407 (Winter, 2022).
On March 3rd 2022, I made the difficult decision to drop my five courses for the remainder of the Winter 2022 semester. Due to my passion and drive for academic success, this was not a choice I made lightly. For the past 6 months, I have been struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I have had previous experiences with anxiety but due to the nature of the pandemic and other external stressors, my anxiety continued to develop, leading to my OCD diagnosis in January 2022. This condition has drastically changed my life and has impacted the way in which I live. Anxious thoughts and worries occupy a large portion of my time which has made attending class and completing schoolwork extremely difficult and taxing. OCD took a large toll on my concentration and has caused large bouts of exhaustion - both of which are factors that have limited my energy exponentially. After careful deliberation with my family, I decided that the best thing I could do for myself is put time and effort into healing whilst taking a short break from school. I am very dedicated to my academics and did not want to sacrifice my learning and grades in order to complete the semester as planned. I began taking a medication in January that has drastically improved my well-being and has allowed me to return to semi-normal levels of functioning. With all that said, my OCD continues to pose significant challenges despite the many positive improvements I have seen since starting my treatment.
I thoroughly enjoyed attending the ENSC 407 lectures; this course gave me the opportunity to engage in course materials and interact with my peers whilst allowing me to feel like myself again after a long-winded battle with my mental health. In addition, my condition severely limits my functioning in the morning and, therefore I found it more feasible to attend the 2:30 pm ENSC 407 lecture. After deciding to drop my classes in early March, I reached out to Dr. Geoffrey Hall and asked if I could audit ENSC 407 for the rest of this semester due to the positive impact it had on my well-being. He agreed and we set up a meeting to discuss my options moving forward. We discussed an academic plan that would allow me to finish the course by July 31st, 2022, which is an opportunity that I immensely grateful for and eager to take.
I am writing this letter in hopes that I could be re-enrolled in ENSC 407. I have already completed two course assessments and I would be thrilled with the opportunity to continue where I left off and finish the course over Summer 2022. I am eager to return to my academics and I could not think of a better way of doing so. Thank you very much for your time.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Dr. Geoffrey Hall and I have discussed the following deadlines for the remainder of my assignments should I be re-enrolled in ENSC 407:
- Discussion Forum 2 will be removed, and its weight will be redistributed across other assignments.
- The Case Study assessment and Media/Infographic assignment will be due June 30th.
- The Final Report will be due July 31st.
Dr. Hall and I will meet again in May and maintain regular contact whilst I complete all course assessments.
I understand my responsibility to follow this plan and to maintain my academic standing. I am confident in my abilities, and I have always strived for great academic success. Over the Summer 2022 term, I will complete LAW 705 and receive the final credit for the Certificate in Law. By August 2022, I plan to have completed two of the five courses I had dropped in March. I will take the three remaining courses in Fall 2022 and Winter 2023, which will leave me with a normal course load of five classes per semester. With this plan, I will graduate on schedule in 2023; this is possible due to the numerous summer courses I have completed whilst attending Queen's University in addition to my success in the International Baccalaureate Programme throughout high school.
On a personal level, I will continue to meet with my psychologist and psychiatrist on a regular basis to further my treatment. I will make every effort possible to improve my well-being so I can achieve my personal and academic goals.
