Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Trinity Allen, and I am a second-year Arts and Science student here at Queen??s University. I am writing you to appeal the drop of PHIL 257 (Ethics). Due to extenuating circumstances this year, I have struggled with my physical and mental well-being. Over the past year, I have been receiving treatment from my doctor and health professionals at the local hospital. During the Fall semester, I was treated for two different Mental health disorders. The treatment left me with severe brain fog and fatigue and drastically impacted my ability to attend school and keep up with my assignments. Not only was I taking medication, but I was also attending therapy through Queens mental health services as well as private therapy. While I was taking steps to better myself, nothing seemed to be working. Not until February was I reassessed by my doctor, who began to think there may be another reason why I was unable to focus on my school work and achieve the academic standing I had always been able to in the past. After undergoing further testing, it was discovered that I suffer from Mental health disorders and that I also have ADD. I was unknowingly receiving inadequate treatment as I was being misdiagnosed for quite some time. By the time I was finally receiving the correct treatment, I was already behind in my studies. PHIL 257 is one of the prerequisites for my major and therefore is a course I am passionate about wanting to achieve a grade that is an accurate representation of who I am as a student. This past year has not accurately represented what I can achieve here at Queens. If I can drop this course, I plan on retaking it in the Fall of 2022. With a fresh start, I want to put my all into the subject not only to receive a better grade but also to enrich myself with the knowledge I can obtain for the subject.
