Petition Letter: My father committed suicide on December 30th 2021. He was my favourite person in the world, truly the main pillar in my life. We had the best father daughter friendship that I could ask for, we were so similar in so many ways and he taught me absolutely everything I know. He even coached my hockey team for my last 4 years. This was extremely sudden in the sense that he never struggled with mental illness, he was happy, healthy, insanely intelligent, creative and musically talented. He had gotten sick in November and couldn't really eat or sleep soundly. Tests were coming back negative for lots of things so the doctors prescribed him an anti depressant because they thought it was his mind doing this despite having any history of mental illness. My family believes that my father took his own life as a side effect of the anti-depressants he was prescribed. I was the one who found his car on the side of the road after he went out for a drive and didn't come home. He was the person I went to for everything. The minute I would have an assignment I would call him just to get my ideas out and see what he thought, he was a professional writer and knew everything about everything so I was very lucky. It had been our kind of routine throughout my high school education and my university education where we would talk for a couple hours just bouncing ideas off each-other before I really got down to work. Because of what has happened I almost can't bring myself to write essays and assignments like I used to, I just start crying. Professor Greenfield in HIST301 has been very gracious with granting me personal extensions and I've been trying but my mind doesn't work like it used to. I'm not creative, I'm not intuitive. My class participation has struggled because I cannot hold my composure for more than 30 minutes. I have met with a wellness counsellor who has granted me a 12 week consideration which I believe will provide me with enough time to complete the course work while being home with my family for the summer and seeing a healthcare professional. This course is a full year so I would really like to see it through to pay respect to my previous work. The evaluations I have missed are the final research essay and the final take home exam. If I could be granted an incomplete grade to continue this work throughout the summer, it would be greatly appreciated. I can assure you I am trying my absolute best but it is very difficult to get yourself back on your feet when the person who always helped you up is gone.
