Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am requesting an appeal for the PSYC 100 and CLST 150 courses I took this year because, during the winter term, I decided to come off my anti-depressant and anxiety medication because it started making me not feel good or like myself after about three years of taking it. After choosing not to take it, I was going through horrible withdrawals to the point where I felt on edge all the time and couldn't focus on anything. My depression felt 100 times worse, and I couldn't control it since the only way for my withdrawal to pass was to let it pass on its own. School is my top priority, but I realized I could not do well in school if my mental health was not okay, and I needed to fix that first. Now my doctor is helping me go through this and figuring out how to cope with it.

Decision(s) Being Appealed: Request credit (CR) standing in a course or courses: PSYC 100, Fall/Winter 2022 (Jeffrey Wammes & Jeremy Stewart)
Appeal Letter
Appeal Letter: I have been struggling with my mental health issues most of my life and trying my best to keep them in control and ensure that I am doing okay. I have been taking medication for my anxiety and depression for three years, roughly at the beginning of 2019. My first year of university was the best thing that ever happened to me, and that was the first time I saw myself being happy in an environment where I could thrive. I was trying hard not to let my anxiety and depression take control, but it is not something that ever goes away. Although the year as a whole was challenging for me. I didn't specify in the appeal the fall term was as difficult for me because an incident that I didn't feel comfortable writing about triggered my depression while I was at school. The incident had happened before I decided to come off my medication and start meeting with a therapist to help me cope with it. I am very hard working, and my grade in PSYC 100 is not a fair grade due to what I have been going through; looking at that grade makes me extremely sad, not because I care about my grades but because I know that the grade is not me, and the work I put into that class is not me.

New Information: I agreed with the Dean when they said my grade in PSYC 100 was poorly in the fall term as well as the winter term. My poor grades in the fall term were due to an incident that had happened to me in mid-September of 2021. This incident deeply affected my mental health and triggered my depression and anxiety to be worse, and it was a challenging situation for me to cope through.
