Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: In this letter, I am requesting the late addition of a course Music 171 (Professor Robb MacKay) due to extenuating circumstances that I couldn't control. During my second year (Winter Term 2022) I had received news that my grandmother and cousin were sick, and they could not afford treatment, I really wanted to help and gave what I could of what I had saved up for school and rent. I could not watch my family suffer so I tried hard to put aside whatever I was going through to help them out, I did not have enough money for tuition, bills, or rent. Which took a toll on one of my courses which I had failed, and drew me back from paying my winter 2022 school fees on time. This put a hold on my student account, and I was not able to pick up a course on time (May 13th). The reason I need this summer course bad is that I am a student-athlete here at Queens University and need this course to be eligible for the 2022-23 OUA season. The whole situation with my family, bills, and schools took a huge toll on my mental health. And having no time to work and being able to pay those bills was even worse with all the practices I have during the week as well as trying my hardest to study was not helping whatsoever. These events occurred from January until Mid-April. The way in which I dealt with these situations was playing the sport I love with the teammates that helped me get through all this stress I was experiencing, The way I dealt with some of these problems was I worked every weekend in Kingston and saved up to try and pay some bills. I also got guidance from a lot of my coaches on what I should do with regard to academics and how to maneuver around the problems I was facing to take a bit of weight off my shoulders. The amount of academic support that Queens has given is phenomenal. I appreciate everything that has been done to this point and would appreciate it even more if I was given the opportunity to pick up the course with your approval. You won't regret it I plan to continue to work hard on my Academic and Athletic success as well as work on my mental health which my favourite sport (football), as well as my peers, already take care of. This appeal would mean a lot if I were granted and would make things a whole lot easier.
