Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Ye Shen and my student ID is 20166728. Currently, I am a third year student of the faculty of Art and Science. This term, I am taking CISC326 and other 3 courses. I am writing this email regarding to the petition of credit standing of CISC326 and hopefully this email could find you well. According to my final grade calculation of this course, I have achieved about 69.07% of this course, which suppose to be considered as a satisfying grade. However, due to Prof. Bram Adams'requirement, I have to achieve at least 50% of the average of the two quizzes in order for the course project marks to be considered. Unfortunately, my quiz 2 was finally around 45.875% after I explained the network or website problem I experienced during the quiz 2, which made the final quizzes grade is slightly lower than the 50% requirement and eventually resulted in my failure of this course.
I fully understand that there is a reason for Prof. Bram Adams to set the course rule of passing and I am trying all my best to study hard and meet this requirement. As a third year student whose cGPA is 3.09 and have never failed any course before, I would definitely not fail this course in this way if I did not experienced the pandemic panic in Shanghai. As you know, Shanghai has experienced an unprecedented COVID panic and the strictest zero dynamic policy in March due to thousands of people were tested as positive including my father. Since Mar.22, we were required to live at the shelter hospital for 14 days. The studying environment was very poor there and the network was not stable, which also impact my learning status and quiz result. Getting COVID of my father and being isolated in the shelter hospital due to close contact made me physically and emotionally exhausted. I have to deal with my own concern and panic as well as carrying my study. Although I am slightly less than 50% in the quiz part, the rest part was all satisfying and my overall was much higher than passing. I do not think I deserve to be failed of this whole course due to my peculiar situation. The most importantly, I am applying for my master's study and the GPA means a lot to me. As a Queens University's student, I am always proud of her competitive academic qualification and considerate attitude of the faculty, which enable me to compete with other students all over the world in my future study application. The graduation time as well as a passing grade really matters to me. I could show the proof of my staying in the shelter hospital to prove my words. I hope that the faculty could understand my difficult situation and consider to CR this course for me.
Sincerely yours,
Ye
