Petition Letter: Hello, my name is Gemma Culotta and I am appealing to enter the PHYS 117 course for the summer term that is already closed. I am an incoming second year student in life science and the reason why I want to take this class is because I failed PHYS 117 during the school year. This school year I was presented with many challenges. I contracted Covid-19 when school started up in January and struggled with my coursework while trying to recover from the illness. I also felt in the months afterward I had brain fog and was unable to remember or recall information I had learned/memorized. When I returned to residence on campus, I was extremely lonely as no one else in my entire building section was there and most of my friends stayed home. Then during that period I developed physical issues due to anxiety. For example I would feel chest pain and palpitations, difficulty breathing, eating, and swallowing, and lightheadedness and fainting. The week before exam season I fainted in my residence due to stress. During the period when Queen??s was remote, I tried to get help but was unable to get any in person doctor appointments, only telephone-health, which did not reassure or relax me at all. When I fainted, I went to the emergency room to see a doctor and waited for six hours without seeing anyone. Through all of this I was completely alone with no support. When I returned home after exams, I contracted Covid again after moving home and was sick with many symptoms including a four day fever. Because of this I missed the deadline for PHYS 117 course so I would like a second chance take this class this summer, with no distractions, and improved health.
