Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Mikaela Young-Gayle, I am a first year going to second year arts student, and I am writing this letter to you to give me the chance of continuing second year by waiving my withdrawal letter. I started of the year doing well and towards the end things did end up very rocky leading me to a very low GPA. I could write a bunch of excuses to you and try to justify myself but in all honestly because of the stress I was putting onto myself, a break in situation that occurred during exam season, and the pressure putting on myself to try and raise my gpa I ultimately gave up. This year ended off not as strong as I wanted it too but I have now found the resources to make me a successful student at queens. I have talked to multiple upper year students, spoken to academic advisors, profs and tutors who have given me recourses and who are willing to help me throughout my studies at queens. In the starting off the year I felt like I didn??t have any help and I was still trying to find what works best for me as a student, now I finally know. I am a student that deserves to stay at Queens for second year even though my GPA is lower than expected and I will strive to do better. I am already taking summer school courses and I already have tutors on call for any troubling classes this upcoming September. I understand the withdrawal is only for a year but I know I can do it as I already have a plan and able to do the work this time as I know what works best for me. Please waive my withdrawal and give me the chance to show you that I am a deserving student to stay at queens.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: From speaking to academic advisors moving forward my plan to stay on track and become successful is to work one on one with tutors in my troubling classes. I will be attending all office hours given to us from our profs and make sure my assignments and work is up to task and anything that isn??t clarified is done so. Being that second year we are given the chance to major in something specific I will be taking classes that I have more interest in and know I will succeed in rather then taking classes that I think I like. I also will be devoting more time into studying and prioritizing whatever is important in my classes and building relationships with my TA??s to have someone to guide me and help me stay on track. In addition, I will also be joining clubs and study groups so I have someone to speak to when feeling like things are tough. I already went through 1 year at queens and now that I know what works best and have a plan I know i will succeed during my time at queens.
