Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Academics),
I am appealing the faculty??s decision that I must withdraw from Queens for a year. After being placed on academic probation in May 2021, my stress levels skyrocketed. In September 2021, when we were invited back on campus, I was eager to learn. After a rocky second year, I decided to take 5 courses in hopes to complete more credits and achieve a higher GPA. Ultimately, this was a bad decision. As a student with a learning disability, managing a full course load, playing lacrosse, and working a part time job I felt it was too overwhelming. While dealing with an enormous amount of stress, I was faced with an illness from Weeks 8-11 in the fall, which played a major role in my academic performance. My illness prevented me from completing work to my best ability, while also altering my day-to-day life. I had a tough time sleeping, eating and ultimately, I found it tough to complete day to day activities for 4 weeks straight. Throughout my illness, I was in contact with my family physician Dr. MacKinnon. I need a second chance.
As someone who prides themselves on opportunity, Queens has provided me with everything. I don??t know what I would do without being on campus for a year. After reflecting for a long time, I thoroughly believe that my academic performance was affected by my sickness and my grades in the winter semester reflect just that. After the fall semester, I implemented a plan to achieve greater success, while minimizing the stress I put on myself as a student. I hope you consider my appeal and give me a second chance, because I deserve one. I will prove myself right.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read and hear my story. Please refer to my academic plan for more.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Academic Plan:
Throughout my three years of being a student at Queens, I have always taken a full course load. After being placed on Academic probation after second year, I took 5 courses thinking that it might help my chances of achieving a 1.6 GPA. That wasn??t the case. After consulting with an academic advisor, we felt it was best that in the winter term I decided to change my Bachler of Arts with Honours degree to a General Arts degree, which meant I didn??t need to complete as many credits. Along with changing my degree, I decided to lighten my course load to 3 classes in the winter. This was the best decision I had ever made. I found it easier to manage course loads while also providing me with ample time to complete assignments. Despite a lighter course load, there are still many things I need to work on as a student. Personally, my study habits and exam prep tend to struggle, so I??ve decided to take the July 29th exam prep workshop for my summer course exams. I also will take full advantage of the on-campus workshops, such as writing a university level essay and effective midterm and test prep, which will help me in every learning aspect going forward. Due to a heavier course load and weak preparation skills, I felt that this deeply affected my academic performance in the Winter term, along with dealing with severe illness.
