Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to request aegrotat status in the three courses listed in my online submission. I have requested incompletes in my half year courses as I did not complete 60 of the course material and therefore am not eligible to receive aegrotat status in those courses. The circumstances leading up to this request are explained below.

After observing a lump over Christmas break, I had surgery on January 19th to remove it. I missed 2 weeks of classes and returned to school over reading week. I communicated with my professors and provided a note from my surgeon, and was granted some extensions for assignments due while I was incapacitated. I worked hard over reading week to catch up so I could continue on with my term and was in fact successful in doing so. However, the pain from the surgery, the stress of not knowing the pathology results of the tumour analysis, as well as long term factors, and lack of a break when most needed, culminated in a mental health crisis which occurred early March when I was seen in the emergency room at KGH. I subsequently left Kingston and have been at home in Toronto since then. I have seen various health professionals and their letters are attached which describe the situation in greater detail. At this point, I am still having difficulty adjusting to medication which causes nausea and fatigue and therefore I am presently unable to continue my studies.

I have enjoyed studying in the philosophy department at Queen¿¿s. I also plan to minor in English after enjoying ENGL 100 online. While it was disappointing to have this disruption, I remain committed to my studies. Throughout the summer I will continue to work closely with medical professionals to ensure that I am able to resume studies as soon as possible. I would very much appreciate any accommodations that can be provided.
