Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I haven??t registered in my originally desired degree plan. After taking serious consideration of my situation, I strongly believe I can fulfill the plan requirements. I would appreciate the ability to continue with the full-time study. Although I had difficulties in the past year, I have made the determination to complete my future academic sessions.

The last year has been emotionally trying for me as an international student. It was my first time being away from my family. I was home-sick and at the same time also learning to deal with situations on my own. The feeling of anxiety and loneliness was made worse by the COVID outbreaks around campus.

In addition, due to the potential risk of Covid, I chose to participate online courses on onQ. I found it difficult to focus on the study materials provided on the websites. My expectation was that there would be recorded videos for the lectures. But it turned out all we were instructed to do was to read course materials by ourselves without further guidance. Since I did not attend in person classes, I also did not have the chance to meet any fellow classmates to discuss course materials.

Choosing Psychology was an advice from my family. After struggling with it for two years I have to admit that it is not my interest. I have discovered the program Computing and Creative Art and it is an ideal combination of technology and my passion in art design. I am very excited to explore the new possibilities it brings to me.

If I am fortunate to be admitted into the Computing and Creative Art program. I will have the motivation and determination to complete my academic sessions.

Over the last few months, I have learned to adapt to the new environment. Since the Covid circumstances has improved, I plan to return to in person classes to address those challenges. I will be able to take course notes and ask questions in class. I will also meet new friends so that we can support each other academically.

Although I didn??t show outstanding performance in the computing courses I took before, I did find the course content interesting. My grade is impacted by missing assignments that I had difficulties meeting deadlines since I was overwhelmed by my psychology courses. I will form study group with my classmates to review and discuss the course materials. If I encounter any future challenges, I understand that I can seek help from professor or other teaching assistants.

I am very committed to the plan I have set out to improve my academic performance. I will be very grateful for an opportunity to continue my study at Queens University this year.
