Petition Letter: THE REQUEST:

My appeal is to receive Credit Standing for CISC 324, CISC 458, and CISC 497. On April 21, 2022, I was approved for Extenuating Circumstances to complete all five of my courses within three months. I have completed the course requirements for CISC 423, CISC 458, and CISC 497 and received a passing grade. (These grades are not showing yet in SOLUS.) I also received a passing grade in CISC 325. I have not yet completed the requirements to receive a passing grade in CISC 423.

I discussed this appeal with my academic advisor Carolyn Teske. It was also recommended to me in May by Libby Hearns.

EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES/FUTURE PLANS:

During the Winter Term, 2022, I was in a very high level of anxiety which affected my academic performance. My circumstances during covid as well as other personal matters caused me to start having severely increased anxiety and stress. I tried to persevere with my courses but this only increased my anxiety and made things worse. I began to see a psychologist on a weekly basis in January. I switched to a new therapist in March. I also had an emergency appointment with a Queens Student Wellness counsellor in April. (See her attached report.) I was approved for Extenuating Circumstances on April 21, with three months to complete outstanding course requirements. Please see attached email.

Over the past three months, the sessions with the therapist has been positive and I have been making progress on my anxiety. I have slowly been completing the course requirements. Receiving Credit Standing in these three courses will better reflect my overall abilities and performance as shown in the three years prior to the pandemic.
