Re: Appeal/Plea to remain a current student

Hello,

I hope this finds you well.

I am appealing the Faculty??s decision that I must withdraw from Queen??s for a minimum of one year.
I was recently diagnosed with major depressive disorder, Bipolar II disorder more specifically. I was not aware as the semester progressed that I going through a manic episode. I also did not know I had failed, since I had yet to pay my tuition until July 12; I also did not have access to a phone (my phone broke and I had to wait for a new one to ship to me), also I did not have access to a computer outside work (work has a firewall to queens, I work for the govt of Canada), and since I was going through a divorce and moving, all my things were in boxes - therefore I didn??t know/couldn??t check my grades ?? which is also why I am past the deadline and for that I apologize.

A bit more context: I have been receiving treatment since June from my psychiatrist Dr. Nakhost. I didn??t know I was in a ??high? until I crashed and was in a ??low?. I have been going through a divorce, which doesn??t help. But I am medicated now, I am doing better slowly day by day. At the end of April I was going to kill myself ?? which I obviously didn??t, and I reached out to seek help. At this point I was just going through motions. I had been in therapy through my work??s EAP services since January and I was placed with my psychiatrist end of May/beginning June. School was the last thing on my mind, I was just trying to survive. It??s not an excuse, I know I should??ve dropped long before even exams had begun, but I wasn??t in my right mind, I was in a mania and I didn??t know; I hope there can be some leniency for this.

I am hoping to be able to continue with my studies as planned in the fall without having to withdraw. Now that I am medicated receiving continuous treatment (see letter from doctor attached with appeal), feeling more like myself day by day, and feeling capable to take on a course or two, I think if given the chance I can do really well. I am even willing to do whatever is required of me, i.e. to remain on probation for a year or however long is required. I am typically a great student, you can reference my transfer credits from McGill University to see my past grades, I did really well ?? I hope to do really well again with Queens if an exception can be made. Please tell me what to do, I will do whatever it takes to succeed as a current student; leaving for a year is devastating, I really would like to avoid this if at all possible.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration ?? so sorry for the hassle.

Thank you kindly,
