Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter to commence the AG grade process. I will be discussing the nature of my situation as well as why I believe that I completed the necessary learning goals of the course HIST 252, Africa in the Modern World.

For the course HIST 252 I completed and successfully submitted 60 percent of the course work, including the final exam. However there were two instances where assignments were due which I completed the work for and submitted on April 2 2022, only to find out that both assignments had not been received. I made the mistake of proceeding to work on my several other assignments and not following up to ensure the work had been properly submitted. Covid has definitely changed the way within which we operate, it has especially done this for me. Essentially since the beginning of covid measures and lockdowns I have been struggling with anxiety, depression, and have had extreme difficulty focusing. I have been going to counselling for this, and one of the skills the counsellor had me work on was focussing on one task at a time until it was completed then move on to the next. This did help me but it also hurt me because once I would submit one assignment I would move on to the next one, so in the busy time of the semester I became focused on one task at a time, and instead of ensuring my assignment was received, I moved on to the next assignment. I assumed that our internet was working properly and did not doubt the effectiveness of technology. I learned a very tough lesson I am hopeful that this mistake does not have to result in me failing a class due to technological failure in the process of the submission of those two assignments. I can promise I will never allow this to happen again.

I believe very strongly that I completed the learning goals of this course in its entirety, however even with the 60% completion amount I believe the majority of the course is in this amount. This is reflective in the marks that I received on the course work . Of the work that was marked I have a 46 out of 60 total percent (not including the two assignments that were not received). I also achieved an 85 percent on my final exam which I believe is a direct indication that I understood the course content well and met the course learning objectives.I am really hoping you feel the same. I will also be attaching a jpeg that shows a screenshot of a text message from me telling my mom that I had submitted the assignment due on April 1 for HIST 252 as well as calendars with the assignments and due dates for my courses for the entire semester, showing that there were constant reminders of these assignments for me. These were tools recommended to me by my counsellor in order to achieve a successful outcome. I daily, along with the support of my mom, lived by the calendar and its reminders. Moving forward my goal is to be able to follow my agenda items independently and continue to follow my routine. The date of the text messages says April third. This is because I submitted the assignment on April second which, according to the course's grace period, allows me to submit assignments up to three days after the due date without penalty.

With all of this said I truly hope you accept my appeal for an AG grade in HIST 252 based not only on my circumstances for the zeros in this course, but also due to my knowledge of course material. I greatly appreciate your time and consideration.
