Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Appeal Letter: To the Academic Associate Dean,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Kevin Kim and I am appealing to drop HLTH 101 (ASO) NS22 (summer 2022). I am currently a McMaster student taking a visiting student course at Queens University, however due to circumstances beyond my control I was not able to fulfill my academic potential. Two of my family members had passed away this year, one during February and another this early July. Despite my first uncle passing away, I believed I was strong enough to finish the summer course before the 8 week drop deadline. However, when my second uncle had recently passed, the accumulation and build up of personal grief became very hard to bear and really impacted my mental health, making it extremely difficult to focus on my course. I just ask that you please understand my situation and mental health and consider dropping the course without any academic penalty.

After talking with an academic advisor, I have obtained the appropriate documentation for my second level appeal. The document that I will be submitting was more difficult to obtain, as it was a more recent event that had occurred making it a more personal and sensitive topic matter. I hope this document provides a perspective of the situation me and my family had to endure throughout this year. Thank you for your time and consideration.
