Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing to you today to appeal the 21-day deadline in order to appeal the request to withdraw from studies for one year. Missing the deadline was not due to anything other than the fact that I was not aware of the situation. I was under the impression that I would be removed from academic probation and not requested to withdraw for one year.
It is stated that for students on probation, at the end of the winter term, after 18 units, their GPA would be assessed. Additionally, the minimum GPA a student must meet is 1.6 or they would be requested to withdraw. As for myself, I knew my GPA was not below the grade point minimum therefore I was under the impression that I would not be requested to withdraw.
While attending Queens during my second year, I met with advisors to plan to raise my GPA. The plan that I created with these advisors was to retake courses to raise my GPA. These courses were necessary for my projected programs course plan. At no point was I informed that not completing 18 units after the end of the winter term would result in a request to withdraw.
I became aware of the request when I was not able to enroll in courses due to an outstanding payment. After making that payment and still not being able to enroll, students?? services informed me of the request. As soon as I was aware of my situation, I acted to appeal. If permitted, the following appeal will outline the unforeseen circumstances I was faced with, which led to my academic probation. My appeal will also include the steps I have taken as well as the steps I plan to take to better my academic standing.
