Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I, Ziqi Meng, am a student that is on an academic probation. I am appealing to waive the requirement to withdraw for one year, to allow me to take one class, MATH111 for this and the next semester. I am asking for this with the support of Professor Peter Taylor, the Chair of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Math & Stats, who is also teaching MATH111 this semester.
When I was admitted to Queen??s, I was an honor student. The reason for my academic underperformance in the last few years is largely related to the pandemic. At the end of the last winter semester, I got COVID, and it affected my performance and mental state last semester.
I talked to Professor Taylor about my situation, and he suggested me filing this appeal. He thinks that I need to ??do some math? in this year in order for me to continue my study in Statistics next year. He also thinks that I will have a high chance of success (since I already took and passed MATH121 and STAT268) in MATH111, and he will offer good support.
It would be greatly appreciated if this appeal could be approved as soon as possible.
