Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am Anjali Sookdeo, a first-year student at Queens University hoping to major in Political Studies. Student Number: 20339516

After a few weeks (approximately 3 weeks) in the economics course (ECON 110A), it has been immensely stressful taking this course. My anxiety and stress levels are rising and I am devoting majority of my time studying for this course. Unfortunately, due to these circumstances, my various other classes (PHIL 115A, POLS 110A, PSYC 100A) are at risk of lower grades . Moreover, I worry that this issue will result in potential failure since I devote most of my time to understanding economics. I did not take mathematical courses in grade 12, and I am at a disadvantage compared to those who have taken courses such as data management to help. These are one of the reasons I am genuinely struggling with the course. Additionally, since I am in a state of distress due to this course, I am changing my recently planned major in PPE to an undergraduate honours in political studies. If I were to pursue economics, my averages could immensely decrease. If my averages drop. my hope of applying to the Law School at Queens and getting accepted would be nearly impossible with a low average and inadequate grades.

Concerning the course I would like to switch into, GNDS 120 would greatly benefit me since many of the units involve studies from political perspectives. This would advance my knowledge in politics and assist me in my major in the political field. Moreover, I have emailed the teacher asking permission to join her course, and she has agreed since there are available seats.

Thank you so much for your help, I truly hope you will allow my appeal.

Sincerely,
Anjali Sookdeo

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I am a full-time student at Queens with scholarships currently paying for my tuition. My academic plan involves attaining additional scholarships and devoting my time to studying and understanding the informative lessons and lectures professors provide. Additionally, I spend hours on end educating myself concerning the content from the textbooks and researching the topics exposed in class. Education is something I take extremely seriously as I socialize less and study more. I consider the practice of excelling academically a hobby of mine as I enjoy learning, reading textbooks, and studying the lessons and context. Moreover, my goal is to achieve extremely high grades and averages since I find a sense of fulfilment when this is achieved. In order to attain these high grades, I continuously familiarize myself with the content, read articles, watch videos, write notes, and apply the information throughout my everyday life. Evaluations are not only based on memorization, but also understanding the material and being able to apply your knowledge and genuinely enjoying the experience of doing so. My initial drive for this academic endeavour involves my dream of attending the Law School at Queen's after finishing my undergraduate and writing the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) in order to become a lawyer. Law is the only subject aside from politics that I find myself drawn to and feel the utmost confidence in when taking courses. In order to pass the LSAT, I will seek tutoring and read the practice question books, and complete practice tests. In conclusion, this is currently my academic plan.
