Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:

As recommended by a Queen??s academic advisor, I am submitting this appeal in order to have the selected courses from the fall of 2019 removed from my overall G.P.A. During this period, I experienced several significant events that left an enduring negative impact on my mental health. I was forced to change my living situation and had to end several close relationships. The overall effect was overwhelming. I suffered from a major depressive episode. I struggled to get out of bed or look after myself physically, let alone attend classes or meet deadlines. When I did attempt schoolwork, I found it extremely difficult to concentrate and stay focused on any task. I had to prioritize my mental well-being over everything else, consequently my motivation for school and my academic performance suffered dramatically. It was during this time that I sought out mental health support through counselling and although these sessions assisted in providing some coping mechanisms and tools, it continues to be a long road to recovery. I am still receiving mental health support through counselling today.

As you will note from my academic records, I was a reasonable student up until this period, and I have worked diligently since to improve any level of academic performance. At this time, I have sufficient credits to graduate and am working to repair my G.P.A. Granting this appeal will allow me to graduate and would be a significant aid in closing the book in this period of my life, assisting in improving my mental well-being.
