Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing to drop CLST 103 from Winter 2022. In summary form, during my first year I had dealt with extenuating circumstances, beyond my control that drastically affected my academic performance. I will not specify what happened our of privacy, but this affected me academically because it caused a new sense of anxiety and paranoia every time I would leave my dorm. The event took place in my first week of University last year, and ever since I haven't been the same person. I believe I will be affected by my trauma forever, and that's something I have come to accept. Despite the fact that my transcript looks a bit rough (due to ENGL100 and CLST103), I have taken my next steps to succeed academically this year by accepting help from Barbara Lotan, who works with the sexual violence prevention and response at Queen's U. I will continue to heal myself mentally and physically to be able to succeed here.

My future plan is to get my GPA up, get out of academic probation in May, and decide my major as Art History. I already plan on taking summer courses to make up some credits, as due to the extenuating circumstance, I have taken on a lighter course load of only 4 courses a semester. My outlook on myself, my life, my academics, have all changed drastically from last year, as my academics are now one of my main priorities.
