Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am writing an appeal to join MATH 121 past the course registration deadline.

When enrolling in my classes for the upcoming school year, I enrolled in MATH 120, suggested through the advising system. When the fall term began, I had hesitations about this class, it was not what I had expected so I decided to take the initiative and meet with an academic advisor to discuss the course.
The course I was interested in taking was that that corresponded to AP Calculus, a course I had taken in grade 12. I wanted to further understand these topics and continue to develop my skills, but as MATH 120 began I learned it investigated the theory behind calculus, rather than the actual calculations. When meeting with an advisor, I questioned whether I was in the correct class or if I should be making a switch to MATH 121. Their response was that I was already in the correct calculus course that corresponds with AP Calculus and should stay in MATH 120, which I have now learned, is incorrect information. I should have been told to make a change and enroll in MATH 121, then I would be in the correct class. After being told incorrect information, I stayed in MATH 120 trusting the queens Academic Advisors.
As time passed, I continued to develop this feeling that something was still wrong. I reached out to an advisor on Monday, October 3rd to discuss this issue. It is here where I was told the correct information and that MATH 121 is the right class for me. I was told a level change would be permitted and to contact the Math department. When doing this, I was declined the level change. I met with the Mathematics and Statistics Undergraduate chair and explained the situation of how I was misguided and never wanted to enroll in a course such as MATH 120 in the first place. They responded by saying that there were too many students requesting the switch and that making an exception for me is not fair to others. However, since this was not a mistake on my part, I do not feel as if I am in the same shoes as everyone else.
To conclude, my goal would be to join the MATH 121 class now and be able to part-take the course for the rest of the year. If this could be done, I would greatly appreciate it.
