Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing to you because I intend to study abroad for the winter semester through a third party company in London, England, and then return to Queens for the following academic year (my fourth and hopefully final year during my undergrad). I am in the process of completing all outstanding documents (some have to be filled out by members of the IPO at Queens, and some by my tentative host school). One of the last things now is to get this appeal granted, so I can study a full course load abroad (more than 6.0 units) and have my credits transferred back with no problems.
The reason I did not go through Queens exchange program is because during my first two years here, I unfortunately experienced some quite serious extenuating circumstances (anxiety, panic attacks etc). These circumstances directly affected my school performance and because of that, I did not meet the minimum requirements to be accepted into bilateral program. For example, my GPA was around 2.8 at the time of applying, and my desired schools (University of Manchester was one of them), had a 3.0 requirement. All of these accommodation / circumstantial issues can be verified by several doctors (of which have submitted many notes to Queens in the past). I have also made my host school aware so that they can accommodate me in a way that they seem fit.
There are several reasons as to why I feel like I have to study abroad and go on exchange. Firstly, I feel as though I need the experience of moving to a foreign place and making a living there. In order to further better myself both socially and academically, I think that going away, adapting to a new culture, and meeting people from all around the word would benefit me greatly. On top of that, I have also always dreamed of going to London. Many of my favourite cultural things were founded / created in London, so living there for an extended period of time would greatly enhance me happiness and make my life better overall.
I have tried to be as brief and concise as possible, so there may be instances in this letter where I have not explained myself and my intentions to the best of my ability. Please let me know if there is any more information I can give you to help me get my appeal granted.
Thanks so much for your consideration,
Jake Kleiner,

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My broad, long-term academic goal is to, of course, complete my undergraduate degree at Queens in four years. While away on exchange, I have ensured that all my desired courses can be transferred back to Queens as part of my program plan. Some of these courses include British philosophy, British political history, and more humanitarian courses along those lines. Depending on how many I take, I will receive the equivalent of four (or five) Queens course credits.
After this, I will take at least one (but possibly two) summer courses back at Queens to ensure that I will be able to complete all my degree requirements on time. Then, I will take a full course load in my fourth year and essentially be able to complete all my goals accordingly and with the best marks possible.
I am actively consulting with academic advisors and other people of that sort in order to ensure that all my goals are realistic and achievable.
I have tried to be as brief and concise as possible, so there may be instances in this letter where I have not explained myself and my intentions to the best of my ability. Please let me know if there is any more information I can give you to help me get my appeal granted.
