Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello, my name is Julia Huomo and I am in my first year of the Life Sciences and Biochemistry pathway. I am writing this appeal in regard to dropping a course I am taking this semester, BIOL 102. I completed an IB HL Biology course in high school which provided me with transfer credits for BIOL 102 and BIOL 103. Due to the stress of beginning a new school routine, arranging housing for the following year, extracurriculars, and more, I was not fully aware of the application of these transfer credits and the effect they had on my schooling and mental well-being. To gain more insight on the topic, I looked into booking an appointment with an academic advisor. However, it was somewhat difficult due to it being mostly booked. Once I found an opening in the schedule for appointments, I discussed my situation with an academic advisor who guided me toward submitting an appeal.
Being past the drop due date, I am unable to apply my transfer credits without academic penalty. Thus, I would like to appeal against my academic penalty for dropping BIOL 102, and applying my transfer credit for this semester. If the information regarding these transfer credits was known earlier, I would have applied my transfer credits prior to the deadline. This would have allowed me to open up my schedule for more courses this semester and expand my knowledge in other subjects.
I believe that my knowledge is sufficient to support applying the transfer credit. Furthermore, dropping BIOL 102 this semester would provide me with sufficient time to succeed in my other courses. This would improve my overall stress levels and academic performance.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this and I hope you can consider my appeal. In the future, even through a packed schedule and additional factors such as extracurriculars, I will do my best to find these opportunities before the deadlines.
Note: I do not have a letter from a professional as stated in the Appeal Documentation Chart. Upon speaking to an academic advisor, it is my belief that this is not required in this specific situation. Please keep me informed if I am mistaken.
