Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop ENGL 273 ?? Literature and the Fantastic (Fall, 2022).

I am requesting to drop this course due to ongoing mental health struggles. I was recently diagnosed with anxiety and depression, both of which impact my ability to stay on top of my schedule. I missed the deadline to drop this course because I believed that I would be able to persevere through my coursework and finish the term. However, over the past few weeks I have realized that this course is causing me to feel very overwhelmed, and I do not feel like I am gaining anything valuable from continuing it. ENGL 273 is a fully online course. I believed that, due to the pandemic and my familiarity with the online format, I would be able to enjoy this course. Unfortunately, I have found that I struggle to prioritize a fully online course with my other classes, which are entirely in-person. Further, the delivery of the course is not conducive to my learning style. The lessons are written out (rather than recordings of the professor lecturing). I spend so much time looking at my computer in my day to day life that I find it very difficult to keep up with this format.

I feel strongly in taking efforts to better my mental health. I meet with my doctor regularly and am currently taking medication for the above diagnoses. I believe that by reducing my course load, I will be better able to balance my academics and my health.


For these reasons, I would like to be removed from this course. I understand that by dropping this course my transcript will reflect ??DR.? I accept this and would like to proceed, with your permission.
