Petition Letter: Hi there,
This appeal is to waive the 21-day or one-term deadline so I can request an extension to submit incomplete work for two classes from the winter 2022 semester.
During the latter semester, I was not in the correct headspace - I started strong, but then a change in medication, in addition to moving back to campus alone after covid, caused me to experience some mental health issues that were out of my control.
Due to these troubles, I did not complete some of the coursework from these courses, causing me to receive a failing grade. I did not appeal within the specified timeline because I felt immense shame, exacerbated by my ongoing mental health issues, which caused me to experience a sense of paralysis and, therefore, mentally and physically unable to reach out to the necessary instructors and staff.
I am only now waiving the deadline due to months of working with my doctor to receive the correct diagnosis and medications. After years of struggling with my mental health, I finally feel capable of successfully completing the necessary coursework for these classes.
I hope my appeal to waive the deadline is reviewed and accepted, as my circumstances were out of my control at the time, preventing me from appealing within the deadlines. I have worked very hard to get where I am, so I would appreciate the opportunity to complete these courses and graduate. My instructors for these classes have also expressed their support in marking the incomplete work.
