Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I recently considered the idea of pursuing a BA instead of a BAH(major in Economics as well), however by the time I came to this decision I had already missed the academic deadline to drop the courses that I wanted to drop.

Aside from one course that I am currently taking(ECON241), I no longer need the other 5 courses that I am enrolled in that would have been required had I continued with my BAH plan(ECON310, 351, 231, 332 and PPEC200). I had also slowly come to the realization in the second half of the semester that I was struggling to deal with the course load and had gone back and forth with an academic advisor regarding this.

I would rather not risk my current GPA as I do not need the credits for 5 other courses that are not conducive to my degree plan and am appealing to withdraw from the courses that I have mentioned above with the exception of ECON241.

INFORMATION SUBMITTED VIA EMAIL WHEN ASKED FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

To whom it may concern,

Initially, I had come into the fall term with the goal of completing my BAH by the end of this academic year in winter 2022. Unfortunately, I had previously never done a course load with six courses and struggled as a result. Over the course of this semester, my anxiety and mental health have gotten worse. Considering I intend to return to Hong Kong and pursue a career in either Governance or Aviation an honours degree in Economics(while useful) isn't necessary for what career path I am taking, hence I have decided to return to Hong Kong during the winter term and settle with a BA-Gen-ECON degree plan instead of a BAH Econ degree, which I have already spoken to the economics undergraduate assistant about changing my degree plan to.

As such, with the current degree plan, that I am going to switch to, I only require one fall course that I am currently enrolled in, which is ECON241. Considering I am struggling in all my courses I have decided to simply stay enrolled in one course and focus my efforts on maintaining my GPA, something which would be impossible as I have lost total confidence in being able to pursue academic excellence in six courses simultaneously.

Hence, now that I am enrolled in an extra five courses and do not need the credits for it, it would be of great help to withdraw from all the courses I am currently enrolled in besides ECON241.
