Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
After suffering a concussion in early March, I contacted all of my instructors personally in requesting extensions on assignments to catch up on course material and to prepare for my examinations. I have been followed up with Doctor Lacoursiere at Health Services, who has recommended me to a specialist, which I am currently still waiting on an appointment for. During my exam preparations on April 17th, I started to feel nauseous, dizzy and disoriented. This forced me to go to a doctor, missing my examination for ARTH 260 on April the 18th. There the doctor suggested I had post- concussive syndrome, and would need an unspecified amount of time to recover. For this I have documentation. Immediately I contacted my Disability Services Advisor, Jeanette Parsons, who suggested I file for academic appeal and (IN) in the three courses outstanding, to allow myself cognitive rest so that healing can take place most effectively. As of now, I have an examination in ARTH 260 as well as an essay incomplete. I have a paper for ENGL 278 outstanding, as well as a take-home exam and 3 institution journals for ARTH 288. My condition debilitates me to chronic headaches, weakness and occasional dizziness, making focusing on course material next to impossible. Additionally, it has been recommended that long-term exposure to screens and mental stimulation is harmful to my recovery process.
I hope that I may be granted the time needed to succeed in these courses while also allowing my health appropriate recovery.
