Olivia Richards
My name is Olivia Richards (20268609), and I am applying to drop the ANAT 315 Fall 2022 course, taught by Ron Easteal, due to my disabilities and extenuating circumstances. The ANAT 315 course consists of only five exams of which I was only able to write one. The reason my academic performance was negatively affected is because of my diagnosed anxiety disorder. This disorder is extremely difficult for me to control and seems to stem from in person evaluations. The symptoms arise the night before or wake me up early in the morning before an evaluation. These symptoms include excessive sweating, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, and extreme difficulty concentrating/focusing. These symptoms will last on average 24 hours, making it extremely frustrating as I prepare efficiently for these examinations yet am finding myself stuck in the washroom, for hours at a time, continuously being sick. The events of my anxiety symptoms occurred during Midterm 1, Midterm 2, Midterm Lab Exam, Final Lab Exam, and Final Exam of the ANAT 315 course (all evaluations in the course).
As my anxiety started acting up at the start of the year, I started to carry out some exercises to try and help reduce the stress, which included going for short walks, listening to certain podcasts, breathing techniques learned from anxiety control classes, and stretching/yoga/meditation. As for consultations with health-care professionals, I have an academic advisor at Queen??s that I have had multiple appointments with to discuss my anxiety and ADHD symptoms that regularly occur. I also have an appointment with my family doctor over the Christmas break because I was started on Concerta for my ADHD at the beginning of the year and am still trying to figure out the correct dosage that works for me or if I need to switch to anti-anxiety medications instead. With this being said, this extenuating circumstance directly correlates with the inability I faced to achieve the best possible grade I could in the ANAT 315 course, as my anxiety only comes to an extreme before important school evaluations.
