RE: Jillian Berry, Student Number 20204063
I am writing this letter to request a late course drop for Physics 115 and Chemistry 211.
I have been suffering from severe anxiety which has dramatically hampered my ability to attend classes and study for my courses. This has been an ongoing issue over the course of the semester which I have been taking actions to address. However, due to some recent personal developments and changes in my life the situation has worsened, and I am not in a place to deal with the additional stress of exams. I have been under the care of a therapist, and she has suggested that I reduce my course load and take some time to pay attention to my physical and mental health. As a result, I am requesting a late drop for the above-noted courses so that they do not reflect on my transcript.
I have done all I can to stay on course this semester, however, as my therapist will explain, the stress has begun to impact my physical health as well. I, as well as those helping me, believe it is best to listen to my body and slow down. However, I do still want to give this semester what I can, so I am planning on writing the final exam for Biochemistry 218. By only writing this exam I feel as though I will be able study without the greater pressure and heavy weight of multiple exams which in itself impedes my ability to study effectively. I feel it is a stronger end for the semester than to abandon all courses and ??quit? but also set achievable goals for success without ignoring my mental health.
Moving forward I plan to take the winter semester off to avoid slipping down the same slope and take my time to get back on my feet. I want to ensure I am fully prepared and in the best position possible for September to start school again, not only with a more solid foundation but with already solidified healthy habits and a well-structured routine.
I have attached a letter from my therapist, Lesley Reuben at the Dupont Clinic in Toronto. I may be reached at 647-633-7636 should you require further information. Thank you for your consideration of my request.
Sincerely,
Jillian Berry
