Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Barbara Crow,

I am petitioning to drop or get a No Grade in HLTH 230 (fall 2022). My extenuating circumstance which was out of my control has been my mental health. I have learned that I have been dealing with this for a while now and probably had something to do with my failures in my first year. I have learned that this mental battle with myself is something that is out of my control in terms of who has to deal with it. As I said I have been struggling but did not have the courage to seek help, I began to receive help in November of 2022 but still am constantly battling every day. This affect my academic success as before I dealt with the struggles of my work I was already dealing with the struggles within myself. I am only petitioning to drop this course as I was able to just get by in my others, but I will not be able to get by in this one. I am afraid that with my previous struggles academically and my GPA being so bad that I may be asked to leave Queens which would be a dream of mine coming to an end. That Is why I am trying to appeal this course in order to continue to work on myself at this university instead of somewhere else. I did not drop this earlier as I thought that maybe I could pull it off but in the last month, I have had many realizations. In the future, I am going to work on benefitting myself physically and mentally to benefit myself academically as well. I am going to continue to see my therapist and work out my problems before they get unmanageable and I have to resort to things such as this. On top of that, I am going to try and be proactive and realize when I am struggling and not be afraid to find the courage to seek help when I need it most.

I feel like I have hit all the things I wanted to talk about in this letter. If there are any questions or clarifications on my situation, please let me know.

Thank you for your understanding through this unusual time in my life,

Sincerely,
Scott Fleming
