Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Academic

My name is Gareth Chantler and my student number is 5123756.

This is a request that the courses from the Fall 2009 and Winter 2010 semesters be dropped from my transcript. These courses are Vector Calculus, Intro to Operations Research, Applications of Matrix Algebra, Real Analysis, Intro to Galois theory, and American Foreign Policy.

Though I was enrolled in these courses, I was unable to participate in them in any meaningful way for medical reasons. A doctor??s note is attached from Dr Jennifer Rae, who was my physician at the time and remains my physician to this day.

In the Fall term of 2007 I had ongoing documented medical accommodations. My health at the time ultimately led to my withdrawal from Queen??s, as is noted in my transcript. This discontinuation appears on the transcript as 1st of January 2009, but I had not enrolled in courses following the Fall 2007 semester, and did not re-enroll until Fall of 2009. My medical condition and the accommodations addressing them were also documented at that time.

That is to say that this request is consistent with previous medical accommodations and disruptions to my academic progress at Queen??s in the period of 2005-2010. They would fall under the category of ??extenuating circumstances, beyond my control.? These were severe enough for me to both leave Queen??s after Fall 2007 and to leave again permanently after Winter 2010.

It would be hard to understate the severity. I never was able to resume much less complete my studies. The courses during the Fall 2009 and Winter 2010 semesters represent a failed attempt to do so.

The guide for writing an appeal letter suggests one should answer, why said appeal is being submitted now. Twelve years on, I am applying to law schools, and this 2009-2010 academic year is weighing down my efforts considerably. When I first left Queen??s I had no reason to rectify my transcript. It was having no impact upon my wellbeing, recovery, or life, all of which were taking priority. Now it is having an enormous impact.

I have no future plans to study at Queen??s. However, the resolution of this issue would greatly alleviate distress currently hampering my current pursuits.
