Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I would like to request the ability to drop GPHY 105 from my transcript. I took the course as an elective in the fall term of 2022. When the course first began, I found myself able to attend most of the lectures and I was even able to complete the first assignment on time. However, as the term progressed I began to struggle with insomnia, anxiety and depression. This made it extremely difficult to attend classes and stay on top of work. Especially, in this class where there is a large emphasis on attendance. Additionally, I found myself unable to complete multiple assignments occasions. I found it very difficult to things required for the assignments such as going outside to collect data and doing extensive research on topics due to a lack of sleep and multiple mental blocks. As I received marks for my midterm and my first few assignments (with several incompletions), it became apparent to me that I was not going to be able to pass this course. However, this happened right after the final drop date for the term. This furthered my stress and anxiety over the situation and I was unable to take responsibility and deal with the situation for a while. I ended up not completing a majority of the assignments for the course and not even writing the final exam.

If required, I can provide you with a doctors note, detailing my struggles with mental illness throughout the years. Thankfully, I worked through a lot of my issues over the break and find myself in a much better mental state as the new term begins.

I am now in the process of applying for summer jobs and require to show my transcript. The F in GPHY 105 course stands out like a blemish in an otherwise fairly good set of marks and I am worried this may hinder my ability to find a summer job.
